Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is an all India common engineering entrance examination of
objective pattern which is conducted for admission in various engineering colleges and courses all over the country.

JEE-Advanced is for admission to Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs),
while the JEE-Main exam is for admission to National Institutes of Technology (NITs),
Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), Centrally Funded Technical Institutes (CFTIs).

Only the students selected in JEE Mains are eligible for appearing in JEE Advanced.

JEE Main will be conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA), twice a year in computer-based mode only.

To apply for JEE Main 2019 (minimum 50% marks in PCM). To get admission in NIT, a candidate must secure at least 75% marks in 10+2 Exam (65% for SC/ST category) or be in the top 20 percentiles in the 10+2 exam conducted byrespective boards.

Admission to NITs/IIITs is based on your JEE Mains rank, which depends on your JEE Mains score and marks in board exams.
Even if you don’t appear for JEE Advance, you can still getadmission in NITs.

After qualifying the JEE Main, you are allowed to give JEE Advanced maximum two times in consecutive years. You can give JEE mainsthree times.

Paper Pattern for JEE Mains

Physics – 30 questions
Chemistry – 30 questions
Mathematics – 30 questions
Total – 360 Marks
For each incorrect answer, 1 mark will be deducted. For correct answer, 4 marks is awarded.

Let’s assume:

Your NTA score = P
Total Number of Students = N
Percentage of students below or equal to your marks = P
Example: if you have secured a 70 percentile in JEE Main, which means that 70% of the candidates who appeared for
JEE Main are below or at the same level as you are
Percentage of students above your marks = 100 – P
Number of students above your marks ((100 – P)/100)*N

Now, the formula to calculate JEE Main 2019 Rank from Percentile Score is:
((100 – P)/100)*N + 1
